yesterday, i just got myself surf around the world through the internet to find emulators. do you have idea what is the emulator? just keep in mind it does function like the real one, but the different is that you dont have to spend your moneys on the hardware, not even the software. and what i have got? they are just pretty much the emulators of branded routers configuration. seems i only got 2 brands, if you have some more, come and share.

here are they :

http://www.chetnet.co.uk/ems/linksys.htm (linksys routers)
http://www.dlink.com/support/faq/?prod_id=1457 (d-link routers)

thanks!

private ip address

talking about setting up a network, usually people will much prefer to use DHCP server to automatically set TCP/IP setting on each computers, this way would save a lot of their time, rather than configure the computers one by one. the TCP/IP settings include ip address, subnet mask, default gateway, and DNS server. that was server based network, how about peer to peer? peer to peer dont have any servers, it means no DHCP. however, you need to manually configure it. and therefore, private ip addresses were there, reserved for private addressing. those ip addresses havent been assigned for computers on internet.
here they are :
Class A : 10.0.0.1 to 10.255.255.254
Class B : 172.16.0.1 to 172.31.255.254
Class C : 192.168.0.1 to 192.168.255.254

yesterday, i got a networking class which has lab practical session. and in that day’s session, we were asked to crimp an UTP cable to RJ-45 clip. theoritically, it was not that hard to be applied. but, i don’t know where i made the mistake on the cable. seems that the cable didn’t work after tested by a tester tool. i’m pretty sure that i had follow all the instructions correctly given by the lecturer :(. even i replaced and redo crimping both end of the cable, but still it didn’t work, only the more trouble i got :(. here is the faulty cable of what i done before. and there is a RJ-45 clip which i cropped out, another one has missing LOL.

The faulty UTP :(
